Dalkeith update: 6 March 2026

Next week, we will begin installing pipeline crossings at the junctions at Newmills Road with James Lean Avenue and Woodburn Road. We expect this work to be completed by Friday 13 March, after which both roads will safely re‑open under a one‑way traffic system.

Update to our works at Old Fordell Tunnel

Our pumping operations continue to control the underground water levels. On Tuesday 10 March, we will be changing the pump at Woodburn Court and replacing it with a more efficient model to further support this work.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we carried out the ground penetration survey to identify the buried services along Newmills Road. The temporary lane closure has now been lifted, and two‑way traffic has been fully restored

We will use the information from the surveys to develop options for a permanent solution to safely transport the mine water. Once we have further details to share, we will arrange another community meeting to keep residents fully informed.

Works restarted at our mine water treatment site

Work has now resumed at the mine water treatment site. This follows the temporary pause we put in place while we reviewed conditions on site following a reduction in water flow from the drainage tunnel. Underground water levels are being carefully monitored and effectively managed by the pumping. Following a thorough review of the situation and the controls in place, we are satisfied that it is safe for work to continue and for the rotary piling activity to be completed.

We will continue to keep conditions under close review while work is underway.
