Dalkeith update: 5 June 2026

Update to our works at Old Fordell Tunnel

Thank you for your patience and understanding whilst our pumping operations continue. Water levels underground have now returned to the level they were at before the incident occurred. This is a result of the pumping operation we have undertaken, and we need to continue pumping to ensure that these levels do not rise again.

At the community meeting on 13 May, we shared our plans for a permanent pipeline. We are currently working closely with Midlothian Council to reach agreements to use the land for our preferred route, and preparations are being made to start the work.

We are aware that the pedestrian crossing on Newmills Road just below James Lean Avenue is currently out of action. We are sorry for this inconvenience and will arrange for a temporary crossing to be put in place until access can be arranged for Midlothian Council to carry out the necessary repairs.

Works at our Mine Water Treatment Site

Our contractors, Bentleys, have made great progress and have poured all the foundations for site buildings. Work continues with the placement of steel to the building basement walls, and further concrete deliveries will be required to pour these.
