Dalkeith update: 6 February 2026

Update to our works at Old Fordell Tunnel

Thank you for your patience and understanding whilst our works continue to manage the underground mine water levels.

We have made continued positive progress in pumping mine water to the River South Esk via the temporary pipeline, which has successfully stabilised water levels in the underground workings as expected.

We are now developing options for the longer-term resolution of the issue, which we will share in due course.

We are also pleased to confirm that the additional pedestrian access to James Lean Avenue is now in place and we are looking at additional options to minimise any disruption.

Public meeting

We would like to invite all residents to attend a public meeting on Monday evening, where we will provide an update on our current works, answer questions and share further information about our plans going forward.

This week our Community Liaison Officer, Sarah McDaid, has been out and about speaking with residents. Sarah is available to speak with residents and help with any questions or concerns they may have.

Sarah will be available Monday 1-5pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9-2pm.
