Camberwell Drive update: 29 May 2026
We would like to thank residents for their continued patience as we progress the remediation works at Camberwell Drive.
Since our last update we have continued to make good progress in removing the temporary working platform pile caps.
The sheet piles around the shaft are being installed as planned. They are essential for safely excavating the ground above the shaft and constructing the reinforced cap on the piles installed in the previous phase.
We understand that noise and vibration from the installation are causing disruption and may be felt inside nearby properties. We are monitoring both in line with BS 5228, the code of practice for noise and vibration control on construction and open sites, and levels remain within the agreed limits. We have also set our warning triggers below the maximum limits so we can act early to reduce the risk of any exceedances.
Temporary Traffic Management System
Thank you for your continued support in following the one-way system, ensuring that residents and road users are safe. We believe that the extra measures that have been installed recently are proving to be a successful deterrent in reinforcing the route and reducing the risk of an accident.
We are continuing to monitor the use of the one-way system and remain in contact with Tameside council about this.
We will keep you updated throughout the works and will reopen the road as soon as it is safe to do so. Residents will continue to have access to their driveways for the duration of the works.
We continue to work closely with Tameside Council and local transport providers to keep disruption to a minimum. For the latest public transport information, please visit Transport for Greater Manchester at www.tfgm.com.
Next Steps
Over the next two weeks, we will complete the sheet pile installation, build the haul road to keep most vehicle movements within the works area rather than the wider estate, and begin the first phase of excavation to a depth of 1.5 metres below ground level.
