Camberwell Drive update: 15 May 2026

We would like to thank residents for their continued patience as we progress the remediation works at Camberwell Drive.

This week we have completed the piled foundations in preparation for the next stage of works starting on 18 May.

Later this week, we will be installing a ground monitoring device (an extensometer) into the shaft column that will provide ongoing monitoring once the permanent treatment works are complete. To finish the work safely, we will need to work on Saturday between 8am and 5.30pm.

We will start publishing fortnightly updates to ensure you receive regular information about our progress and keep you informed of any impact on the community.

Temporary Traffic Management System

Thank you to everyone who has shared concerns about drivers not following the one-way system. To help keep residents and road users safe, we have installed heavier, water-filled barriers across the road to reinforce the route and reduce the risk of an accident. We would be grateful for your support in keeping everyone safe by reminding visitors, delivery drivers and building contractors to follow the one-way system.

We are continuing to monitor the use of the one-way system and remain in contact with Tameside council about this.

We will keep you updated throughout the works and will reopen the road as soon as it is safe to do so. Residents will continue to have access to their driveways for the duration of the works.

We continue to work closely with Tameside Council and local transport providers to keep disruption to a minimum. For the latest public transport information, please visit Transport for Greater Manchester at www.tfgm.com.

Next Steps

The next phase of work starts on 18 May. Our contractor, Bethell Construction Ltd will begin by installing sheet piles around the shaft to enable them to excavate down to the level where the reinforced concrete cap will be constructed.

As work progresses, you may see more machinery on site and lorries removing excavated material. With increased site traffic, it is even more important to follow the one-way system.

Some additional noise is likely at times, but we will manage deliveries and working practices carefully, monitor the area closely, and do everything we can to keep disruption as low as possible.

Bethell employ a Community Liaison Manager, Rich Lapping, who will be available to answer any site-specific queries you may have. Once Bethell take over the site, Rich will be contactable on 07967 869431 or at Richard.lapping@bethell.co.uk. We will be in regular contact with Rich during this phase of works to discuss any feedback or issues that have been raised.
