Latest update: 15 May 2026
Following our last update in March, we wanted to let you know about our next steps.
Ground stabilisation works
Our continued monitoring of the area for any ground movement has identified slow, ongoing movement within the fenced-off area where the properties were previously located. Whilst this might be concerning, we can reassure you that the movement is minimal and is limited to that specific area. We have not detected any ground movement elsewhere which is outside of normal seasonal variation.
We plan to stabilise the ground to prevent further movement within the fenced-off area and have designed ground stabilisation works using grout and gravel injection into the mine workings. These works will start on 18 May and will take around four months to complete. Residents may notice an increase in traffic and noise as we complete the stabilisation works. We appreciate this might be disruptive and will try to minimise this as much as possible. Our project manager will be available on site on Friday 22 May between 10am and 3pm to meet with residents who have any concerns or questions. Alternatively, you can contact our customer service team on customerservice@miningremediation.gov.uk or 01623 637 000.
Kincardine Community Centre
We understand the Community Centre’s importance to the local community and continue to work closely with Fife Council to support the reopening of the centre as soon as possible. We have now agreed a schedule of repairs with the Council, and this week they confirmed they would like us to carry out the works. We are therefore going to appoint a contractor to carry out these works and will provide further information, including timescales, shortly.
Ongoing monitoring
To provide reassurance to residents and inform decisions on future options for the site, we will continue to monitor Dewar Avenue, the Community Centre and the wider area for any further ground movement. This monitoring will remain in place until at least spring 2027.
Next Update
We’ll update you again once we have confirmed when we will be starting to repair the Community Centre.
